Laura Nasmyth, she/her

- Born in the UK in 1984, the writer/director worked for many years as a production designer in TV and film, before moving into directing in 2015 and has since produced work, ranging from short experimental projects to full length narrative features. Currently based in Marseille (FR).

In 2017 she realised her debut feature 8:30, which received theatrical distribution in 2018 and was curated on MUBI for the month of June 2019. She is a Film Independent Directing Lab 2020, Berlinale Talents 2020 and Torino Film 2019 and Series 2024 Lab Fellow, board member for the Feminist Director’s Association, dieRegisseur*innen and part of the Austrian Cinema ratings committee, Prädikatisierungskomitee.

Her work focuses largely on questioning perceptions of reality, and taking everyday situations out of context to portray the ironies of modern life. Her debut, 8:30 is a satirical gag about urban dislocation, capitalism, and Google Street View, the weirdness of identikit suburbia, and the blurring of lines between reality and fiction in the digital age.

She currently has a short in distribution, and a feature and drama series in development.
